Specific Words/Phrases:
θείας δυνάμεως – According to Bauckham (pg 177), the phrase was a standard term in Gk literature (see BDAG; the Decree of Stratonicea, Deissmann, Bible Studies, 360-61), used by Hellenistic Jewish writers (ex. Philo, Det. 83; Josephus, Ant, 19.69) and by later Christian writers (Justin, Clem).
ἀρετῇ – Is used 3x in 2 Pet (1:3; 1:5). In addition to it’s meaning as either excellence, generally, or moral virtue specifically, Deissmann highlights a usage from the imperial period that this word could mean miracle or manifestation of power (Bible Studies, pg 96-97). Of note, the above mentioned Decree of Stratonicea also mentions ἀρετῇ in the context of θείας δυνάμεως with a likely sense of marvel, miracle, or manifestation of divine power. (See also BDAG entry)
